Summer Meal Idea

Staying in the kitchen around the pots on hot summer days is not what we want! In fact, we want to spend more time in the garden relaxing or by the pool with the kids. So we bring you a quick, easy, versatile, and delicious suggestion - the boards!

It can be a mixed board, a cheese board or a sausage board, whatever you prefer and whatever you feel like. You don't even have to turn on the stove, you just have to prepare your list for when you go to the supermarket. If you don't have a board (like this one, for example), you certainly have a plate or a large tray to present. The way you arrange the elements is what will be eye-catching. After all, we also eat with our eyes, don't we?

What to put on the board

The board is composed of "ready-to-eat" elements. It must have a good combination of salty and sweet with the use of cheeses, sausages, fresh seasonal fruit, jams, dried fruit, pâtés, olives and pickles. All this has to be accompanied by toasts, grissinis or bread.

Cheeses

Choose cheeses of different consistencies, such as island cheese, cow's cheese, sheep's cheese, or regional goat's cheese.

Meats

The meats are preferably pork. You can choose a fuet, salpicão, smoked ham, or an assortment of black pork. Cut the slices thin.

Fresh fruit and dry fruits

Choose fresh seasonal fruits like melon, plums, figs... Grapes also work very well. Nuts: walnuts, cashews, pistachios, almonds or hazelnuts.

How to arrange

1 - Start by cutting a few slices from each cheese and leave the rest whole - place a knife on the side to slice, one with a serrated edge for the harder cheeses and one without for the softer cheeses or for pâtés - like a foie gras. Place them on one side of the board.

2 - To give more color and variety, place the meat sausages on the other side. Here you have to let your creativity run wild. You can wrap a slice of ham around the grissini or make a flower with the other slices - here's how.

3 - To add more texture and refinement, scatter the dried fruits here and there, and arrange the fresh fruit whole, such as grape bunches, or laminated in a small bowl with skewered toothpicks. Don't forget to add a jam or marmalade, they are always a hit when tasting. Dehydrated fruit, such as figs and apricots, are a great pairing with cheese.

4 - Finish with other complements in small bowls: olives, pickles, or a good olive oil with some balsamic vinegar - nothing is more delicious than dipping the bread in a good olive oil!

The quantities will depend on the number of people, but be sure to stuff the board and adapt it so that everyone can enjoy it. As vegetarian options you can put chickpea hummus, carrots, and cucumber sticks with a tzatziki sauce, for example. Delicious and refreshing!
